The Simulator
The Gas Turbine simulator is a 170MW simple cycle unit.
Description of System
A simple cycle plant uses a gas turbine coupled to an electrical power generator to produce electrical power for a power grid or for use in a production facility. The gas turbine extracts energy from a flow of hot gas produced by the combustion of gas or fuel oil in a stream of compressed air. It has an upstream air compressor that is mechanically coupled to a downstream turbine with a combustion chamber located in between. Energy is released when compressed air is mixed with fuel and ignited in the combustor. When directed over the turbine blades, the resulting gases spin the turbine and mechanically power the compressor. Energy is extracted in the form of shaft power and used to power electrical generators.
